Acura in Review

Posted by admin

Acura cars have not been around for very long, but in their short time of existence they have created a name and customer base that can best be described as loyal. Following the successful ventures of Honda, Acura was developed as a line of luxury Japanese vehicles; which was a first for a Japanese car manufacturer. Acura had to overcome the common American and Canadian beliefs that Japanese vehicles are designed more for economy than luxury. The Acura Legend kicked off this movement in the mid eighties, and changed the Japanese car market forever with its refined classic styling, and impressive performance and handling.

With the introduction of the 1989 Acura NSX (all-aluminum body) super car, Japan took on the markets of Ferrari and Porsche head on with this 276 horsepower sport coupe and emerged in the dust to tell about it. Today, even the mention of the NSX brings tingles down the spines of tuners far and wide. But for many of us average Jane’s and Joe’s; settling for the less expensive Acura Integra will have to do as a close second best. Read the rest of this entry »

BP Fuel Card

Posted by admin

BP is a world renowned company. They have stations throughout the UK, US and many other countries. They are considered one of the largest fuel providers, which means you have quite a few fuel stations around the whole of the UK to take advantage of.

The reason this is important all comes down to fuel savings. You can save on fuel with the BP fuel card. The card is a discount product in that you have a card, you use it at the fuel pump, and you get a certain discount off of the fuel you purchase. These are very handy to have especially in the current climate where fuel costs continue to rise and rise.

You should be aware that BP has 500 bunker stations in the UK where the card can be used for HGV and coaches. There are over 3000 BP stations in the UK that will take the card if you have vans or cars. It means the card can be used for more than just fleets. However, if you are a fleet operator you have at least 500 stations you can pull into. Diesel is always the main focus of these stations since most HGV vehicles take diesel.

The bunker stations have quite a few amenities like showers, games, TV, and goods that make a driver’s day more comfortable. Each month a bill will be sent to your business to outline the different charges your drivers make at the BP stations.

It does mean that your drivers will need to use the BP stations to get the discounts and use the facilities available. In other words, they cannot go to a different petrol station unless it is a part of the BP card. BP has worked with different companies like Texaco and Total to make certain their card is available at all three businesses. This is another reason that BP might be the right card for you.

Since there are more than just one fuel savings card on the market, you will need to compare them to determine which one is best. You may find that your particular route does not include BP stations, thus you need a different card like Morrisons. Only you as the fleet operator can decide what will or won’t work for you with regards to your fuel savings. It does pay to find fuel savings though, so that you can continue to operate.

New app for Petrol Prices

Posted by admin

Poynt has offered a new app for the iPhone and iPad. The new application for the mobile devices will help fleet companies and all drivers with petrol prices. The concept is to use the app to find the best prices for fuel near you. In other words, you can check online to see which station within a few minutes has the best fuel. This eliminates the issue of driving around to save money on the high prices.

The data comes from more than 8700 petrol stations in the UK. It helps fleet operators also find lower petrol prices. It is just one of the many applications available for mobile phones that help reduce one’s fuel costs. Though tests have not been conducted by very many in the field of fleet operations it does seem like it may work.

If you want something that has been tested you might consider an alternative. Fuel cards from BP, Shell, and other major UK petrol retailers offer applications for mobile devices too. Some of them will sync with one’s in-vehicle navigation system and GPS tracking. It means the fleet vehicles are told where the closest stations are that they can use with their fuel cards. It may not be where every station is in the UK that might have lesser fuel costs, but it at least helps them narrow down the search to the products they have.

After all, one has to use the card in their pocket so it pays to know where those forecourts are as opposed to others they will not be able to use their cards at. The point is that fleet companies need to save on fuel. To do that, they need to use all products available whether it is applications, fuel discount cards, or better route planning.

Plenty of products exist for lowering fuel costs besides the cards. Vehicle tracking as an example is another product that can lower one’s fuel costs simply by providing better usage of the fuel.

When you combine tracking with cards you get two very handy products. With fleet tracking one can monitor how a driver uses their vehicle. Is the driver taking a longer route? Are they excessively idling, speeding, or braking? All of this is important to reduce fuel usage and thus the amount you pay for fuel every year per vehicle in your company.

Make Car Donations For Charity

Posted by admin

One way of getting rid of an old car is to donate it to a local charity. Some well-known places that accept cars as donations are the Salvation Army, Goodwill and Trees for the Future. However, this list is in no way exhaustive so always check with your local charities, however big or small.

Once donated to charity, cars are treated one of two ways:

1) Charities can sell the cars for whatever monetary value they can get. It this case, they can sell them to a dealership or opt to for direct sale to prospective buyers.

2) The charity also has the option of keeping them. These cars are then used to transport persons or equipments. In the event that the charity promises not to sell the car, it is required that this intent be disclosed to the donor (you). They may subsequently face penalties from the IRS if they do sell it.
